Is this Pilates Method right for me...

Pilates for Women is a total body commitment. Many women are bouncing back from an injury, and here is how Pilates can be there to help. With the use of the different apparatuses, your instructor can help address the injury at hand by using the assistance and resistance from the Pilates Equipment. In order to have total body health, we need a balance of stability and mobility throughout the body. Without stability, mobility will be lacking. When parts of our body are unstable we often over recruit and compensate with other muscles to help create the stability where we are lacking and this can lead to injury. For example, have you ever felt pain in the front of your hips while performing abdominal work such as sit-ups with your legs off of the ground? This is likely over recruitment from your hip flexors due to a lack of core strength. This is a very common problem and can be very easily addressed with a pilates practice.

If childbirth is in your future then we can’t stress enough how beneficial a Pilates practice will be for you and your baby during and after. These topics are so in-depth that we have created Pre and Post Natal Pilates Method pages to address them in more detail. One of the many things important in the childbearing process is pelvic floor health. Strengthening your pelvic floor before pregnancy and during will help decrease the potential damage that these muscles might incur from giving birth and help with a more speedy recovery afterward. It can also lessen the risk factors during birth which leads to less stressful labor resulting in less stress for your baby. This is a win-win in our book, let us help guide you through this beautiful journey in a safe and mindful manner. Pilates by Ness is certified as a ‘Pilates Doula’ and it has always been our passion to guide each and every pregnancy through Pilates in their own unique way. No two pregnancies are ever the same!

Let’s talk about the uncomfortable. Menopause is something we all must face as women and we know it’s not all rainbows and butterflies but we’re dedicated to you and your health at Pilates by Ness. Menopause happens to most women between age 45-50 and can cause some pretty uncomfortable side effects. There is, unfortunately, no way to prevent Menopause but there have been studies done showing that a regular Pilates practice can help alleviate the side effects. This method can help improve overall physical fitness but also overall mental fitness with an emphasis on breath control. Studies show that a consistent Pilates practice can help increase lumbar strength and flexibility and alleviate discomfort in postmenopausal women.
