Pilates & Weight Loss

Weight Loss is a hot topic in the Pilates industry and sometimes affects the industry in a negative way. There is too much emphasis on body image in our society today. For example, when you Google the term Pilates you will likely find a wide variety of photos consisting of thin female bodies doing acrobatics on various pilates equipment. Yes, most of it is Pilates but it pigeon holes the industry in a way that makes it seem inaccessible to the everyday mover. We are here to BREAK this image!

Can I Lose Weight From Doing Pilates? 

The short answer is yes, however Pilates is SO much more than just losing weight, it is a way of life. If weight-loss is your goal then GREAT, let’s talk about what that means for you! At Pilates by Ness we will never give you information that is out of our scope of practice but we will refer to our friends in other industries to help you meet your goals. 


That being said, you might not always break an intense sweat or get a cardiovascular burn while in the studio but when you start practicing Pilates on a regular basis you will most definitely notice changes in your body and not only a change in weight. You will find it’s easier to go up and down the stairs in your home, easier to put on your seat belt, your back might not feel achy by the end of the day, the list goes on and on. With Pilates you are creating a wave of awareness throughout the body which is making these every day activities become easier and with awareness comes all of the other amazing benefits of Pilates.  

How Long Until I See Results?

One of our favorite quotes from Joseph Pilates himself reads, “In 10 sessions you’ll feel the difference, in 20 you’ll see the difference, and in 30 you’ll have a new body.” Truer words have never been spoken when it comes to Pilates, we might even go to say you will feel different after one session! Consistency is key in seeing the results from your pilates practice, at Pilates by Ness we suggest 2 to 3 times a week for the quickest results. This can be done in the studio and/or at your home! Results mean more than just the way you ‘look’ but also the way you feel...you will stand taller, walk prouder and you will even notice a change in your mental health. Consistently exercising and taking care of your body works wonders on your mood, your appetite, and your energy levels, it’s science!!


Try not to let what you see on the internet intimidate you from starting this beautiful form of exercise and movement. We will take great care of you at Pilates by Ness and keep your goals at the TOP of our priority list. Your body will thank you in so many ways for years and years to come!
